Meet Jacob Brown, M.Ed., LPC-Associate

Addiction is a complex and controversial phenomenon. For a long time we have stigmatized those struggling with addiction, assuming they are just "bad people who do not have enough willpower to stop," but that is far from the truth. My perspective on addiction is rooted in trauma and that it develops when we continuously attempt to alleviate that pain. Before the addiction can be healed, the trauma must first be addressed. This perspective applies to substance addictions and all addictive behaviors including sex and pornography, gambling, video games, workaholism, social media, shopping, or any other form of escapism that results in long-term consequences. In therapy, we will work to process unresolved traumas, establish adaptive coping strategies to manage emotions and triggers, and examine what an authentic life looks like for you.

I received my M.Ed. in Counselor Education from Texas Tech University in 2021 and have worked in several clinical settings since 2020. My primary focus is substance abuse and addiction, but I have experience with various mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. I work from a trauma-informed Humanistic perspective and primarily implement Person-Centered and Existential modalities.

Research consistently shows that the client-counselor relationship is the most significant factor of successful therapy, so it is crucial that you find someone who is a good fit for you. If you think that I might be that someone, please don't hesitate to reach out!
